Ranking well in search engines is one of the ultimate goals of every blogger and website owner. However there are certain things that affect its rise and fall that eventually make or break a site. If you are still into developing an outline for your blog, you might as well study and consider things that matter most in ranking. It is better to learn it earlier and hone your site against it than try to bend your already established site to conform to it later on.
While Google presents us with useful tools for our blogs, their motivation sometimes is self-serving rather than altruistic, they utilize information gathered from these tools to make determination of the sites. These gathered data will have an impression on your site’s ranking in the organic searches for significant keyword phrases.
Traffic
Google analytics, Google Search, Google Toolbar and the browser Google Chrome are collecting large amount of information in a website. These tools can monitor the ‘stickiness’ of the site, meaning the amount of time visitors stay on a certain site. If your site proves to be a bouncing site for visitors where they just leave as fast as they arrive, Google may view your site as being insignificant and irrelevant as compared to a competing site with the same type of visitors.
Link Value
Google associates you as you link to low-quality websites and will likely to identify your site to be of the same kind. Google may fail to recognize the quality of your site depending on the linking activity that you have. Thus the axiom “you are who you hang with” may aptly fit in this side of the world. But then again this breeds divisiveness among newbie and experienced bloggers in the blogging world.
Questionable Incoming Links
Any websites that has a big number of inward links coming from Google’s distrusted sites could somehow affect your Google ranking. Incoming links are known as the major factor in organic search ranking and it was believed that the more you are linked with the better it is for your ranking—but not on any questionable links Google had their eyes on. Websites linked from untrusted sources are being penalized by Google.
Defective Web Hosting
When the Google spider attempts to crawl your site for indexing and found it to be defective or cannot access it for some reasons, they would perceive it as malfunctioning and unreliable. The result would be devaluation in the algorithm, which could hurt your site badly.
Black Hat Technique
Employing techniques that are shady like keyword stuffing or cloaking may result to be heavily penalized by Google. Your site could be banned from the internet not just by Google but by other search engines as well.
Duplicated Tiles
As much as possible try to avoid duplicated titles on your website; instead always opt for a creative and easy to read catchy titles. Duplicate entries could be misconstrued as a black hat technique by Google therefore should be avoided.
Unusual Links
In the natural course of linking from or to websites over the internet, links vary most of the time. That is why it is suspicious to encounter a website that has a heavy volume of links of the same origin. This will be interpreted that you are just playing a “game” in Google’s indexing system.
Just like an “A” student in school, Google evaluates your past performance through time. It gathers all the information about your activity and sums it all up to arrive in a conclusion considering your misbehavior and misdemeanor with penalty and your good behavior with good ranking.
