Understanding the Methodologies in Google’s Page Ranking

It is known by many that the search algorithm of Google is made by the number of links as well as its quality targeting to a specific URL. So what many people do is to buy some links on the web pages with a high Google PageRank or what is called PR.

This method came to be known by Google. Sometime in the first quarter of 2007, Matt Cutts currently the head of the Webspam team of Google said that Google will “wage war” against paid links. Google is trying to tell the people to work harder and not “earn” instantly what is being given. I think this latest method of Google is the absolute thing to do and I personally have nothing against it. I do not have to change anything that I am already doing. I did not get a single Google rank by paying a single cent for a link from any web page.

In simpler terms, Google did something like this. Let me illustrate an example where all of these three web pages have 200 inbound links each.

If Web Page A has all of its 200 links on pages having PR 4 or higher, then that is an abnormal linking and therefore is suspicious in nature.

If Web Page B has all of its 200 links on pages having PR 0, then these links have no value at all to the internet community in general, and thus Web Page B is not considered a result of quality search.

If Web Page C has a combination of PR 0 to PR 5 links, then its structure is normal and natural and shows that some links are considered with value to the internet community in general. In conclusion, Web Page C is worthy to have a Page Rank higher than those of Web Pages A and B and has more value in the search results of Google.

This illustration shows that Google will address the paid links issue and will be able to impede people to use paid link in manipulating the ranking of their websites in the search algorithms of Google.

I learned that the links located in the Yahoo! Business Directory and the Open Directory are treated by Google with a higher link value, since all these directories are all approved by a human being. Those links found in social bookmarking websites are also valued by Google since the social bookmarking concept states that individuals “bookmark” a single web page if that web page is of good value to its readers.

Google also values the reprint articles with a linking portfolio past the article directories and these are believed to have absolute value to individuals in the internet community.

Always bear in mind that Google does not like paid links and they can easily recognize the paid links in your site, if ever. If you will be able to create content that people will find to be interesting and of value to others, then the search algorithms of Google will treat your website in a positive way.
