Wisdom from Great Bosses

Success comes from hard work and how one endures the negative business environmental as well as personal environment especially nowadays in this recession period. Well there are still some companies and organizations that still enjoy tremendous success despite all the negative news. I gathered here some of the ideas on how you may be able to improve the success rate of your organization.

Enhance the preparation of getting new staff. Many organizations do not take the time to interview personnel properly and they further admit that they are not well prepared for it. This process is equally important; any person joining your organization should be checked to see if the applicant is best fit for the opening. Studies show that around 60% of new hired employees do not success in their first twelve months of employment.

Focus on improving your memory. It feels good if someone calls you by your name and remembers your name after being introduced especially if it is the first time. Bear in mind that the best and the brightest leaders always remember names, hobbies, partner’s names, job roles, and much more. It is really amazing on how good their memories are. And it pays off well since people work harder for those who remember personal things about them.

Exercise your mind to the fullest together with your body. Make it a habit to exercise your body regularly; this is a trademark of the best bosses. Remember that the body needs to maintain its stamina and needs to exercise so that you may be able to move at your best performance. One good example of such an exercise is yoga which will be able to help you to release stress. This will also help you emotionally and also improve one’s posture since the stress will not remain in your body for long. You will be able to breathe better and energy will be added to be able to help you in the toll of the day’s work. And of course if you are going to choose a candidate for a promotion, will you get the one who looked alert and fit to work or the other who looked so tired and worn out always?

Always keep track of how you spend your time. Schedule your tasks regularly and see where you spend most of your time. Review your schedule to see how you spent your time with who and what. There are other leaders even if they do it with the best of their intentions, dwell too much time on problems or just deal with problem people. This should not be the case. If you see something like this happening always in your calendar, better make the necessary changes to the management of your time.

Include in your body system the words “I made a mistake”. Be confident enough to admit your mistakes and you will be greatly appreciated by the members of your team. This trait will encourage your team to be honest as well and thus will spread throughout the organization. A leader should have the command responsibility to bear the consequences of the mistakes of the team.

Vacations are necessary and not just an option. Many managers put little time off for a vacation every year. Taking a vacation is equally important in one’s work. Better include vacation planning in your agenda. Your body needs to recharge and also clear minds as well. Having breaks will also make one more creative and effective.

Many appreciate a “small picture” boss. The best leaders always bring the goals down to the lowest level of individual work. Just learn to help everyone as much as you can at each level. Do not be choosy on the levels. Understand how each employee’s contribution will bring more success to the whole organization.

Minimize use of Blackberry when at home. Many thought when you are using Blackberry you are more efficient and up to date with the operations of your organizations. Try to do the opposite. It was found out that many bosses who do not check their emails or messages are generally successful and highly rates.

Success should be celebrated. Focus on getting the attention of your team members. Bear in mind that berating management is counterproductive and whining at work doesn’t create change. Even if the organization is feeling a downfall, you will find other things that is really doing well. It is advisable to cite it on meetings or even in emails. Better to celebrate small wins, and encourage more of the same behavior from others. Soon, you will have much more bigger reasons to celebrate.
