Asking for a Raise Reasonably

It is advisable to ask for a salary raise while you are still working with the company. It will be a risk in asking for a raise, as there will be a possibility that your superior will ignore your requests or may look for another person to replace you. Here are some ways in asking for a raise easily.

It is better to keep an open line. Let us admit it, constant communication is important in every relationship. In this case, it is very essential to communicate regularly with your boss especially about issues on compensation.

Keep track of your performance. Be ready with the necessary documents that show why a raise is deserving of you. This is important and you need to list down all your achievements and how you are working beyond what you are capable of. Be also brief with regards to your request and make sure your voice is in a humble tone.

Be tangible. Abide by the rules of the company you are working for. So if the company has the necessary steps for salary adjustments, just follow it.

Be reasonable. Assess the whole situation first. The world is in crisis nowadays, so it is just normal that the industry and your company may be affected with the crisis on hand. It is definite that there will be no talks on salary raise if the company is losing its revenue.

Rejection is possible. Do not despair if you were rejected. Try to negotiate for other benefits like telecommuting. But if you gave a poor performance and you asked for a raise, most likely you will be turned down. Seek advice on job improvement to prepare for another request of a raise in the future, and hopefully you will be able to get a raise.
