Time Management, Essential for the New Year Ahead


A very happy new year to you all! It is the start of another year, and I think we should all be prepared and manage our time most effectively so that every plan of ours will be managed more successfully throughout the year.

Actually in a free enterprise, we are really selling our time no matter what the product or service or company we are involved in. We should be able to realize that time is money, and reality is that most people often times waste their time.

Successful people value and regard time as their most precious ally. Normally businesses in investing regard the term Return on Investment or ROI as significant, but what is really most important to an entrepreneur is the Return on Time, Action and Energy or ROTAE. Success is those things that we do everyday, and not really about what we do. Our most precious resource is time and everything that we generate is a result of how we are able to manage ourselves in every minute we are given everyday.

Most people do not really know the concept of time or money. An average person most often relates time with work and always associating the two with “working hard”. In a free enterprise, we are not paid for the time that we do our work. To succeed in a free enterprise, changing opinions about time and management of time must eventually change. Remember we are paid for the results and not the time. The main issue is on how important we will become through the work or service that we do.

The most effective usage of time is the action process and most of the time should really be concentrated on the lookout for new accounts, and not reading books, tape listening, procrastinating, gossiping, shuffling papers and other such excuses that people may think of to redirect their attention from the actual work that is required of them. If you do the right work inefficiently, the businesses will endure. If you do the wrong tasks efficiently, then we will all go bankrupt. Always bear in mind to take the correct action efficiently and everything will be stable. Remember that efficiency is vital if it is a factor on effectiveness.

Successful people do the work now; this is self-motivation. Better do the urgent work first, and not what is important. Becoming successful often compels a mind setting that sets up urgency in action, in leadership, in numbers, in task and in all areas. Average people are not alarmed with this sense of urgency; they just do the work when it is important and often times it is too late. The capacity to differentiate the importance and the urgency is vital in successful living since the inability to differentiate between the two results in getting many people in big trouble, and thus resulting in broken lives and shattered dreams.

In the end, we have to realize that we are always the result of our decisions and the choices that we make. One of the most vital choices that we can do is to make an important decision and then oblige ourselves in spending our time getting the important results, instead of answering those not so important and urgent disruptions.

Always remember if you enjoy what you are doing, you will be able to make good use of your time more effectively.
